I will give specific details about an item we carry on Amazon and why it is an item I would personally acquire. The Chinook Twin Peaks 4 Man 2 Room w/Vestibule Family Camping Tent is the next camping tent I will acquire. Since the kids are all grown I do not need a larger tent at this point in my life. There are some other tents I would really like but the size is for a much larger family than Marlene and I. It just would not be practical.
It has been over a month since I have written a post, so I thought I may try a little different approach.
As I have mentioned in previous blogs I always select a tent that is larger than manufacturer recommended size. Yes there is just the two of us, but I like extra room to store gear inside away from the outside elements. I have found that the Twin peaks four person tent has a lot of features that I really like. No, it does not have the aluminum poles that a much higher quality tent has, but the fiberglass poles it does have are larger than the conventional poles that other tents have. These larger poles give the tent more strength and stability which I have found is so very important on very windy and blustery days.
I am much older now and will not be doing the hard core camping I did in my youth, camping out on my 80 acres in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. No more chopping up dead trees with an axe until my blisters broke and my hands bled. No more going out to dig a hole or carrying soggy toilet paper out behind a tree to take care of necessary bodily functions. More than likely it will now be in a quiet State Park that does not get a lot of traffic and can still allow me to view the heavens which I still find to this day to be Awe-inspiring.
This Chinook brand tent is a two in one tent. It is a double dome tent, it has a very large sleeping area plus another large domed area that is screened in with a removable heavy duty floor. The screened dome is large enough to hold a picnic table which is a feature I find very appealing. You see, after a day of fishing when I arrive back at camp its usually close to evening and dinner still has to be made. Evening means mosquitoes. If you have ever been caught in a swarm of them you know how maddening that is. They can drive you nuts.(See the movie “African Queen” with Bogart and Hepburn filmed with a real mosquito swarm.) When I was in the service I was out fishing with a buddy of mine in a boat not far from the shore. We got caught in such a swarm and it almost drove me to jump overboard. I do not want to go through that again, especially as I sit down to eat. The screened in dome with a table from the state park I will haul inside will keep us well protected until night sets in.
At its peak, in both domes the tent reaches a height of 6’6” which is more than adequate for my 5’8″ height. The floor area is 12’10″ x 7’10″. This gives us an area of 101 sq ft which is more than adequate for the two of us and our two dogs. When you add the additional vestibule to it, the area becomes 112 sq.ft.
Another plus that this tent offers is that it is a 3 season tent. Its capable of standing up to the elements and it gives you enough room not to go stir crazy if you have an all day rain and need to be cooped up inside of it. It has two large doors that also serve as sun or rain awnings. The extra long fly also has delta panels which aid in keeping rain away from the floor and body.
So, good people, this is going to be my next tent. Feel free to respond and tell us of any situations you may have encountered which will influence your next tent purchase and which tent you will like to acquire.
