Mega Impulse - Before and After
| A while back, I broke my Mega Impulse on the rock shelf on the rocks at Davenport. Simple story, just got caught in a big
foam pile, pushed inside, and hit the rock shelf, split the seam amd cracked the side. My buddy Desmond helped me fix it, it was ugly, but
seemed to hold things together, and I continued to surf it. Then, about 6-7 weeks ago, I was surfing at the River Jetties in Newport Beach. It wasn't huge that day, but
fast and fun. I was getting ready for the contest, so I was trying to do aggressive lip moves. I went up, hit a lip, and came down the face. Then through the face. I pearled bad, and slammed into the sand. Hard.
A sickening crunch. I felt some water, and started paddling to shore. I could see the buckle. Bummer. |
The Damage |
This is the AFTER shot. Amazing. |
The Before shot is above, with highlighted areas. Can't really tell in the photos, but there was buckle all the way across the deck.
You can see my old repair on the right side of the boat, and the new areas.   I dropped the boat off a few weeks ago with Eva, a craftswoman and artist who works in Ventura, and got the boat back saturday. Her work, simply put, is incredible. She removed my old repair, ground out all the broken bits, glassed it all in, on the deck and hull, and refinished. It's absolutely remarkable the job she did, and the skill she did it with. Her price was very reasonable, and I'd recommend her work without hesitation. In fact, I pretty much put this page together simply to recommend her work. The after picture is on the left. You can contact her, and see more pictures of her work, at boardlady.com .   More before and after pictures below. |
